Meet Michelle
A longtime educator with 14 years of service to the Tulsa community, Michelle was elected to represent the Oklahoma House of Representatives for District 72 in June 2024.

As a Muscogee Nation citizen, Michelle's Oklahoma roots began well before statehood. A Tulsa Native, Michelle attended Tulsa Public Schools, including Hawthorne and Bell Elementary and Carver Middle School. Following in the footsteps of four generations, she attended Booker T. Washington High School. In 2003, at 15 years old, Michelle gave birth to her first child and chose to earn her GED. Despite working full time, Michelle leaned on programs like WIC, SNAP, SoonerCare, Section 8, and daycare assistance to help her through leaner times.

She eventually became a Teacher Assistant in Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) and graduated with honors from Tulsa Community College (TCC) with her associate’s degree. Following the birth of her second child, she continued working full time, raising her children, and pursuing her education. In 2014 she received a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University (NSU) followed by a master’s degree in 2018.
Becoming an English teacher then school librarian, Michelle educated thousands of children across Oklahoma. In 2018 after participating in the Oklahoma Teacher Walkout she became more active in education and political advocacy taking on roles within the local party and her teachers' union, the Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA).
A proud union member, Michelle joined TCTA's executive board in 2022. She became a frequent voice for educators, volunteering for local and legislative campaigns as well as regularly attending and speaking at local school board meetings.
During her career in education, Michelle was been awarded Teacher of the Year at McLain High School in 2020-2021 and Traice Academy in 2023-2024. In 2023, then TPS board member Dr. Jennettie Marshall honored her as a District 3 Trailblazer for her teaching and education advocacy.

Michelle was elected to represent District 72 and was sworn in on November 20, 2024 where she continues to be a vocal advocate for public education, marginalized communities, and everyday Oklahomans. She regularly hosts public town halls and attends many events within the district and across the state ensuring Oklahomans are informed and empowered to hold their elected officials accountable.
