INTERIM STUDIES
Interim studies are public learning sessions around specific topics submitted each year by representatives and senators, following the end of the legislative session. Legislators submit interim study requests to leadership in the House or Senate. Leadership will then determine which studies will be approved and assign them to a committee in the House or Senate. Some studies may be assigned to a joint committee with both the House and Senate. Committee chairs will determine which studies will be scheduled. This year's studies must be scheduled between August 4th and November 6th.
Legislators and their staff will work with subject matter experts, relevant state agencies, and interested organizations to gather information and resources for the study. Each interim study meeting is open to the public and may include speakers and presentations on the topic from key stakeholders. This allows legislators to gather information, ask questions, and better understand topics in order to draft legislation or inform other policy decisions.
